The holiday season can be a difficult time for families with chronically ill or hospitalized children. These families are not only coping with the difficulty of having a sick child, but also with financial and emotional burdens as well. Children’s Medical Center in Dallas hosts the annual Adopt-A-Family Program to gather toys, games, clothes, and food for these families so they can focus their attention on the most important people in their lives; their children. Sekisui Specialty Chemicals Dallas has been participating in this program for the past four years running.
This year, the Dallas office adopted the family of a twenty month old baby girl who has been at Children’s Hospital for seven months battling heart and kidney failure; though you would never know it when you see her bright smile. She is currently receiving nightly life sustaining dialysis until she is able to receive a heart and kidney transplant. When she is not in hospital, she enjoys playing with her grandparents and singing “Baby Shark”.
Through the month of November, Sekisui Specialty Chemical employees in the Dallas office donated gift cards and items from the family members’ holiday wish lists. Gifts included a fishing pole for the baby’s father, new sneakers for her mother, and lots of new toys for the brave little girl to play with when she is not in the hospital. The gifts were well received by the family, and they wrote a heartfelt thank you note to all the participants for making their holiday season a little bit brighter. In this new year, Sekisui Specialty Chemicals is looking for additional ways to give back to local communities and help those in need.
