John Myers, one of Sekisui’s Process Operators at our Pasadena site, represented Sekisui and his profession at the Clear Creek ISD College and Career Day last month. The event was a district wide career day for all CCISD high schools, bringing together almost 3000 students, faculty, parents and volunteers.

John was highlighting his work as a process operator and Emergency Response Team member at Sekisui. Other career paths represented included everything from nursing and real estate to finance and engineering, some career paths requiring trade school while others needing a college diploma. The cafeteria was filled with tables representing 65 colleges and 55 industry partners for career paths.

John shares that he was impressed with the questions the students asked. Is there a mentorship program? What is shift work like? Can women be on the Emergency Response Team? “I probably spoke to 45 or 50 kids that day, and 10 parents of kids who were too shy to ask questions. The most memorable moment was when a parent approached me for his child who did not want to go to college but wanted to work at a plant. Once I told him you do not necessarily need college to work at a plant, the student brightened up and started asking questions directly.”

Sekisui is proud to participate in events like the Clear Creek Career Day to help showcase STEM and manufacturing career paths. Sekisui is always excited to share our passion for safety, innovation, and science with young minds. We look forward to participating in the event again next year.
