Specialty Applications

These properties play critical roles in applications such as the following (and many more):

  • Detergents
  • Seed coatings
  • Polyvinyl chloride polymerization
  • Ceramic binders
  • Sponges
  • Dental adhesives
  • Sand coatings
  • Floor coatings
  • Assay methods
  • Health and beauty aids
  • Cleaning concentrates
  • Balloons
  • Printing inks
  • Release agents
  • Temporary protective coatings
  • Lithium ion batteries

Recipe for Success: Specialty Applications

It’s important to select the right grade to match the properties that PVOH can provide for your application.

Before selecting a grade, please consider the key performance attributes that you need for your application. For example, PVOH molecular weight and hydrolysis levels can strongly influence performance properties.

In general, higher molecular weight PVOH grades give higher tensile strengths and abrasion resistance while increasing viscosity. Higher hydrolysis PVOH grades can affect water resistance and solubility, as well as compatibility in formulations or adhesion to substrates (for example, as temporary coatings).
